Training Philosophy
Training is more than just a set of obedience skills.
My training approach is based on the following set of core beliefs:
-
Dogs and humans learn best when they are having fun.
-
Dog training is most successful when it is viewed as a relationship, not as a power struggle.
-
Dog training makes better dogs and better humans.
I believe that dogs and their humans are happier when dogs learn to want to do what they are being asked to do in contrast to acting out of fear of the consequences for disobeying. I will teach you how to use a reward-based system of training that builds a dog's desire to learn new things in a fun and rewarding way.
I believe that most people do not want to be their dog's drill sergeant. They also do not want to have to micro-manage every decision their dog makes. They just want a well-mannered and happy furry family member. I will help you achieve that type of relationship with your dog by improving communication between you and your dog and by helping you learn how to meet the needs of both you and your dog.
I believe that taking time to work with your dog, teaching them what you want them to do and how to do it, helps remind humans of why they wanted a dog in their life. Dogs are smart and curious beings. They are also adorable and hilarious. Working with your dog can help you and your dog build a strong bond and build mutual trust. Teaching your dog new skills can help build your dog's confidence as they learn to navigate their human-centric world. It can also build your confidence knowing you can handle whatever situation the world throws at you and your dog.
Our training journey will begin with me learning a bit about you and your dog through a free phone consultation. We will identify a specific set goals you have for your dog. From there, we will build a training program that is appropriate for you and your dog that helps get you on track for meeting your immediate and long-term goals.
